Re: Get started here!
1. Will think about it. (name)

2. I think $30 - 40 would be a good place to start

3. Personally I wouldn't mind doing something small to start ( I think its a cool idea), the large ones do get pricey, but I would go with the general censes.

4. I may have a little creativity to offer, I have been is Architecture and drafting for about 10 yrs now

5. I am not familiar with any of the local places in Ventura. With the long commute I will be needing to get a meal my self, and a Sat. afternoon/evening would work for me.

6. I am for it, March to June? Makes time to thin out the squirrels and rabbits

Heath, Robb,

I like all the answers, but not sure what all the questions were! And you are right Robb, Ventura is quite a drive from Bakersfield.

Consider it an invite that all those interested in creating a Ventura club, join Riverside in the Isabella area for some squirrel hunting April 9-10. We may not shoot a lot of squirrels, but we certainly will have a good time. We have not scouted the area yet this year and expect the grasses to be tall and squrrels hard to see. Then again, with all this grass we do expect to see a larger squirrel population this year. Bring your snake boots or leggings.

Hunts Chair,

Here are the questions................

From: Heath
Here are some points I wanted to discuss …

1. A name for the club! Any ideas for a cool name?

2. Dues - How much are we going to collect each year in the way of membership dues? We are going to be non-profit, so we have to spend everything we bring in during the year. Each year the Riverside club adopts a family in need around Christmas and buys them a really nice Christmas dinner. We also give out prizes at the year end awards ceremony. This year at the club I belong to in Riverside there is going to be a new Remington stainless fluted barreled .22-250, a scope in the $400 range, and about $400 worth of various door prizes given away. They have about 20 members and collect $50 each year. Right now the dues in the various club range from $25 to $50. I like the great prizes that are given out myself. The more we put in, the more we can do. What is everyone’s input on dues?

3. Hunt Fees – If we want to award trophies at the end of the year for the top killers and other different prizes we will need to collect hunt fee’s. Trophies can be fairly expensive depending on what you go with. Personally, I am not big on trophies and wouldn’t be at all upset if we elect to do away with the hunt fee’s and trophies all together. Again, can I get your input?

4. Any artists in the group? I’d like to draft up a cool decal that we can add to shirts and stuff. Here is a link to some of the other California clubs’ decals. http://californiavarmintcallers.com/chapters.htm

5. Our meetings …. Where does everyone want to meet? Jeph suggested Toppers, any other suggestions? I’d like to be able to meet on a Saturday late afternoon or early evening and have a meal to BS around before getting our meeting together. I know some of you guys have a long drive to get down here, so I don’t expect you to be at all our meetings.

6. While I enjoy hunting coyotes I think it is important to leave them alone to reproduce to make more coyotes for us to shoot! I want for us to give them an “off” period to birth and rear their pups. That time is a good opportunity to go shoot them ground squirrels! How does everyone feel about that?

Please forward this to guys you know are interested in join up with us. Have them drop me an e-mail so I can add them to this little mailing list.

Re: Get started here!
Ray,

I will try and mark that on the calendar, I hunt in that area all the time. Couple of very good squirrel places up in that area. Some big dogs too, most of them are pretty savvy though.

If you want to come to Bakersfield and there are only a couple of us, I have access to some private land, where the squirrels are incredible, I must have killed 100 of them last Sat. My buddy is a cattle rancher so he loves it, he just don’t like the large crowds on his property. Open offer let me know.

Re: Get started here!
Thanks for posting this Robb. My wife and I have been moving this last week and I've just gotten around to replying to Ray. Sorry Ray! I'll fire off another e-mail to the guys who have inquired about the Ventura club and let them know about the Isabella squirrel hunt in April. (I sure like these dancing banannas!)

Re: Get started here!
We just hauled the last bunch of stuff from the old house and turned over the keys and garage door openers. Now we just have to unpack all the boxes! Yes, I whole heartedly agree moving bites the big one.

Sounds like you had quite the weekend out shooting those ground squirrels! Bakersfield isn't too terribly far, if you need a shooting partner let me know!

Well glad it went well, if you’re like me the hard part is what is coming next. Usually takes me about 3 months to unpack and find a home for everything. Yeah, I had a great time last weekend. We could defiantly partner up and head out there. Let me know when your all settled in and I will set something up............
